Get Ready for the Big PSTN Switch Off: Switch to VoIP

Phone systems running on the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) are being replaced by VoIP. Here's what you

All businesses rely on communication. That’s why it’s REALLY important to know that the way businesses communicate is changing.

What You Need to Know

To put it simply, phone systems running on the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) are being replaced by a more versatile and cost-efective solution called Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP).

(You may already be familiar with VoIP, but if you’re not, VoIP essentially allows users to make calls and stay connected over the internet. VoIP has numerous benefits for businesses and you can read more about them here).

VoIP is transforming the world of communication and by December 2025, BT Openreach will be switching off and disconnecting traditional PSTN phone and ISDN lines completely in the UK, turning to VoIP instead.

What This Means for You

If your business still operates on a traditional phoneline, there are 2 things you must do before PSTN lines are switched off in 2025:

  • Replace your connection to the internet
  • Move to a VoIP system

By getting things sorted now you can minimise any disruption to your business.
