Consistently coming up with new ideas for your business’s social media posts is no easy task and last month, to help you out, we shared these tips.
One of the tips we gave revolved around repurposing content, i.e., taking existing materials that your business has available and turning them into something new to publish across your socials.
It’s such a useful method – it saves time and allows your content to reach more people. You might share something once but not everyone will see it (or remember it) so transforming old content into something new can reiterate the same messages without being repetitive.
Here’s some advice to help you get started:
Blogs
If your business has an archive of blog posts available on its website, this is a great starting point for repurposing content. There’s a few ways you could do it. You could take a section from a blog post and turn it into an image to publish on your socials with some text. You could take multiple sections and create a carousel of images to share. Take a look at an example of how we did it for this blog here.
Another idea would be to take to social media to ask a question which the blog addresses or answers – this could be in the form of a poll. E.g., if you shared a blog on ‘repurposing content’, you could ask your audience ‘how do you come up with ideas for social media posts?’, provide them with some answers to choose from and encourage them to read your blog! Maybe we should give this one a try…
Videos
Video content can be really useful, if you have it available. You could take multiple short clips related to one thing and compile them together to form a reel for Instagram or Facebook. Alternatively, you could take a longer video and share snippets of it to your socials over time.
Other Social Posts
If you’ve had certain social media posts perform well in the past, don’t be afraid to reuse them. Just make sure to embrace the art of repurposing and transform them into something that feels different.
You could create a new-look image and tweak the original post’s text. You could turn the post into a reel. You could refresh it to make the content more current / newer. You could even take a different angle e.g. if you shared the benefits of a product in a previous post, hone in on one specific benefit you shared and go into more detail with it in a new post.
Take a look at how we repurposed this password security post we made for Cyber Security Awareness Month again for World Password day here.
The freedom is yours – be creative and never underestimate the power of repurposing when you’re stuck for social media content.
