Struggling to think of what to post on your business’s social media accounts? We’ve all been there!

We’re only human and it can be really difficult to consistently think of new and exciting ideas, especially when you’ve got loads of other things to do or you’re in a bit of a creative block.

But don’t worry, we’re here to help.

Carry on reading as we share 5 tips for when you don’t know what to post on social media.

1. See What’s Trending

Getting familiar with current trends can really help you get inspired and create some great social media content for your business.

Spend some time on different social media platforms and check out the main stories in the news to get a feel for what people are talking about both generally and in your industry. Pick out any appropriate topics and get involved in the discussion on your business’s social media accounts.

2. Check out Your Competition

Another tip is to head over to your competitor’s social media accounts and see what they are posting. Pay attention to any posts that performed particularly well for them and use them as inspiration for your own content. Think about why their post performed well and create something better.

You should never copy someone else’s post, but taking some general inspiration to create something of your own is fine.

3. Look at Forums

Online forums, like Quora, can be a great source of inspiration when you’re not sure what to post. You can use these forums to gain some insight into what your target audience (the people you want to see your social media content) are talking about.

Simply search for a keyword relating to your business and look through the results to see what questions people are asking about it. You can then go away and create social media content that answers these questions.

For example, a business that sells pet products could search Quora for a keyword like ‘dog toys’. They may see questions like ‘what is the best type of dog toy for larger dogs?’ being asked. The business can create a social media post that answers this question.

4. Repurpose Old Content

Many businesses have inspiration for social media posts right under their nose!

If your company website has a blog, you could find an old post, refresh the content and turn it into a social media post. If you have an old social media post that performed well, recreate that too. This process is known as repurposing and it works wonders when you’re running out of ideas.

5. Consider Your USP

Our last tip is to think about your business’s unique selling point (USP) – the thing that makes your business special, different, unique. Perhaps you’ve been in business for over 20 years? Maybe your service or product has special features?

Whatever it is, make sure you talk about it on social media. Even if you’ve spoken about it before, it’s always worth shouting about your USP in your social media content – after all, your USP is what makes you stand out from your competition.
